MT 524 Intra-Position Instruction

MT524 Scope

This message is sent by an account owner to an account servicer (account servicing institution). The account owner may be a global custodian which has an account with its local agent (sub-custodian) or an investment management institution or a broker/dealer which has an account with their custodian.

This message is used to instruct the movement of securities within its holding, for example, re-registration of securities.

MT524 Network Validated Rules

C1 The 'Balance From' must be different from the 'Balance To'. The Sub-balance Type of field :93A::FROM must be different from the Sub-balance Type of field :93A::TOBA. This check applies to sequence B.
C2 If the message is a cancellation, that is, Function of the Message (field 23G) is CANC, then subsequence A1 (Linkages) must be present in the message, and field :20C::PREV must be present in A1.

MT524 Usage Rules

This message must not be used to move securities out of or into a safekeeping account. It instructs only movements that affect the status/availability of the security, that is, movements from one sub-balance to another or intra-position transfers, within a safekeeping account.
To confirm an intra-position instruction, the account servicer must use the MT 508 Intra-Position Advice.
